ARURF death timer dooms Akali player in League

April 2022 · 2 minute read

ARURF, one of League of Legends’ rotating game modes that occasionally makes a return via events, gets rid of excessive spell and death timers, as well as mana costs that inhibit champions from showcasing their true strengths. This opens many opportunities for familiar champions to be played in new ways, sometimes to the dismay of others.

When a player got Akali as their random champion to play in this game mode, they likely expected to dish out major damage to opponents without expending much energy. But in this clip they posted on Reddit, an encounter with an enemy Sion may have humbled them to the point of realizing that not only are their team’s champions strong but so are their enemies.

After defeating the Sion, their passive activated, bringing the giant tank back to life—as is normal for this champion. With the giant minion wave around them, Sion was able to extend how long his passive was activated, requiring the Akali player and their ally Ryze to dish out even more damage in an attempt to take down Sion. To finish off Sion, Akali used their E, not realizing that Sion had extended the zombie form enough for their respawn timer to bring them back to life from base.

As Akali activated their second cast of E, Sion’s body teleported back to base to respawn, bringing Akali on a wild ride. Akali’s teammates spammed missing pings furiously as their body rocketed towards the enemy base at high speeds to catch up to the Sion. Upon reaching the respawning enemy, Akali was immediately executed by the fountain, but not before Sion could get an auto-attack off to secure the kill for themself.

Akali is capable of achieving this interaction with any champion in normal games of League, but thanks to the decreased death timers in ARURF, only in this mode can something as unexpected as this occur.
