Innox leaves Evil Geniuses

January 2023 · 2 minute read

It seemed like the team formerly known as Evil Geniuses would somehow manage to avoid most of the roster shuffling that’s plagued League of Legends this offseason.

Sure, long-time support player Mitch “Krepo” Voorspoels left the team. There were rumors that big name clubs like Counter Logic Gaming were courting Eugene “Pobelter” Park and Shin “Helios” Dong-jin. The team even lost its brand due to Riot Games’ new sale of sponsorship rules, meaning they’ll don new colors next season. But it looked like, when the dust settled, the roster would remain intact.

Then on Monday, Tyson “Innox” Kapler revealed he was leaving the team.

The top laner said he’ll stay in the competitive scene, but will move to the mid lane, a position that better fits his style of play.

Kapler spent the year as the whipping boy for Evil Geniuses, often taking criticism for favoring carry style top lane champions—perhaps one reason for his mid lane switch.  But throughout the year he showed diversity in his pool and the willingness to do what his team needed.

The move leaves the team with three players on the roster, but none of the three are confirmed to be returning to the team. A squad built around young mid and marksman players Park and Johnny “Altec” Ru could be a League Championship Series contender, as long as Evil Geniuses manage to retain the pair.
