Update March 17, 7:23pm: This article has been updated to include 100 Thieves player Spencer “Hiko” Martin’s statement on the team’s removal from the event.
100 Thieves has dropped out of the upcoming VALORANT Knights Monthly Gauntlet tournament, which is set to begin on March 21, according to an internal message acquired by Dot Esports on March 17 and confirmed by multiple sources.
TSM X will replace the team, according to the message. It’s possible one more team could drop out too; the message was edited. A previous iteration of the message said FaZe Clan would drop out of the tournament and Teal Seam would play in the event.
Hiko said on stream “it wouldn’t make sense” for the team to participate in the tournament. He said that the team is not “fleshed out,” meaning the roles of the players will likely change. “We don’t have anything to practice, we have to go over stuff.”
As a result of the change, there will likely be a change in the groups since seeding will likely be affected. However this is yet to be confirmed by the organizer.
The 64-team tournament will begin on March 21 and conclude on March 23 with 16 groups of four. 100 Thieves were set to face off against ‘GNR Esports’ in the first round of Group A.
100 Thieves recently took part in the VALORANT Champions Tour Stage 1 Challengers but failed to qualify for the playoff stage, which began today with Cloud9 taking on Knights and OpTic facing off against XSET.
100 Thieves finished with a 1-4 record and made several roster changes throughout the season. The team will compete in the second stage of VCT Challengers, which will begin on May 5 and conclude on June 27.
